Ministries & Service Opportunities

1. Board of Spiritual Ministry (Elders)

The Board of Spiritual Ministry assists the pastor in tending to the spiritual needs of the members of the congregation.

2. Stewardship Board

God does not command us to live in poverty. We can cite many Biblical characters who were wealthy and yet pleased their Lord. God, after all, is the creator of all good things. We are foolish, however, to hoard our possessions or put our trust in wealth. Paul urges us to put [our] hope in God, Who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment: (1 Timothy 6:17), and he further reminds us that God makes us "rich in every way so that [we] can be generous on every occasion" (2 Corinthians 9:11) with the result that glory will be given to God.

3. Board of Evangelism

The Board of Evangelism at Faith Lutheran Church works at reaching out to the community and sharing the Good News of our salvation through Christs death and resurrection. The goal is to contact every man, woman and child in the Godfrey area who does not yet have a church home. Toward that effort the Good News shared at Faith is publicized through the media and through community canvasses to reach as many as possible. As visitors express interest in fellowship, Faith congregation members mobilize to assist in visitations and other contacts as new people become involved within Faith Lutheran Congregation.

4. Sunday School/Children's Ministry

Heres what is happening in Sunday School this year.
  1. This year in Sunday School well employ a new format.
--Well meet in the sanctuary at 10:20 for a combined opening
--Then each class will move out to their room for the lesson
--Finally well get back together in the Activity Center for crafts.

5. Social Minstries

Social Ministry is the active participation of members within a congregation who in response to the love of Christ, extend a hand of friendship and spend time, effort, and resources to provide human care assistance within the congregation and the surrounding community. Through these activities, the members of Faith congregation put our Mission into action: By the Spirits power, Faith will grow in Word and Sacrament serving and reaching out to friends, and strangers in Christs love.

Activities promoted by the Social Ministry Board also create opportunities to give the gift of service and compassion to others.

Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others,
faithfully administering Gods grace in its various forms.
If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides,
so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.
To Him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen
I Peter 4: 10 and 11b

6. Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML)/Faith Ladies Guild

The purpose of the L. W. M. L. (Lutheran Women's Missionary League) / Faith Ladies Guild is to strengthen the spiritual life of its members, offer opportunity for Christian fellowship and to aid the church in its mission and outreach.

OUR MOTTO: Serve the Lord with gladness (Psalm 100:2)

  • L. W. M. L./ Guild meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 1:00 P.M. in the adult Sunday School classroom. All ladies of the congregation are invited to be a part of this organization. The meeting begins with a devotional prayer, followed with a business meeting and refreshments. Occasionally there is a special program or guest speaker.
  • We host an annual Mother-Daughter Banquet, and have an annual spring fundraiser Salad Luncheon.
  • There is a large MITE box in the church hallway to place your gifts (mites) for outreach mission projects.
  • The group is a member of the Southern Illinois L. W. M. L. district, Metro-North Zone.

7. GriefShare

The death of a spouse, child, family member or friend is devastating. Christians are able to claim an eternal perspective and can rejoice that the person they lost is now in the presence of his or her Creator. Even so, as humans, we must grieve a loss so deep and significant. The GriefShare ministry is designed to help people recover from the deep hurt of loss. GriefShare includes three key elements to guide the healing process. Each week, videos feature personal stories of people like you who are grieving the death of a loved one. In addition, GriefShare creates a support group for all who participate. These along with the weekly workbook exercises can make a real difference in your recovery. GriefShare, with its biblical Christ-centered perspective is an effective tool to help people find or deepen faith in Christ as they examine soul-level questions about death, dying, their own mortality and eternal life. GriefShare points grieving people to Christ as the source of their healing. Are you or someone you know grieving? Consider GriefShare as one of God's good means of comforting those who grieve.

GriefShare meets for 13 weekly sessions. For more information, please contact the church office at 466-3833 ext. 200.
